Domain registration: .UA and other zones

.UA is one of the few zones where the registry checks not only that the name is free but also your right to it: a registered trademark whose word element matches the domain is required. We check the mark against the name before payment, file the application and move the domain to your account. The public .UA zones and .com, .net, .org we register without a mark; the domains of other countries have their own conditions — from open registration to a local presence or a trademark — which we check before payment.

What people come to us with

• you need the domain name.ua for your trademark — a registered one; if the application has only been filed, we will tell you when it gives you the right to the domain

How we work

1. Checking the mark and the name. For .UA we check the certificate against the spelling of the domain and check that the name is free. If the mark does not qualify, we say so before payment and propose a third-level zone or trademark registration.
2. Filing. We collect the registrant's details, cite the mark and file the application. The .UA registry verifies that the certificate is in force.
3. Transfer. The domain goes into your account at NIC.UA or at a registrar of your choice. The registrant is you, not us: we do not hold clients' domains in our own account.
4. Support. We set up DNS, watch the renewal date and remind you in advance.

What we need from you

• for .UA — the number of the trademark certificate or of the international registration with effect in Ukraine
• the registrant's details: company name or personal name, address, phone, e-mail
• the name you want and the zones; if there are several options — all of them
• your NIC.UA account, if you have one; if not, we create one in your name

More than registration

• Trademark Clearinghouse and Sunrise — priority registration of the brand name in the new top-level domains: a separate page
• defensive registrations — the brand name in zones where you do not operate but where others could take it, plus spelling variants and common typos
• a domain portfolio audit — a list of all the company's domains: who the registrant is, the dates, DNS, what is surplus and what is missing
• recovering a domain after expiry or theft — while the domain is in the renewal period it is recovered through the registrar; if it is already in third-party hands, that is a dispute
• buying a taken domain — we negotiate with the owner and close the deal through a licensed escrow partner: the money and the domain change hands at the same time

What matters

A second-level .UA domain is issued only to the owner of a trademark valid in Ukraine — under a Ukrainian certificate or an international registration with effect in Ukraine. Its word element must match the domain's spelling: a word mark qualifies, and so does a combined mark whose word element is itself protected (the .UA Regulation, cl. 3.3–3.4); the registry verifies that the certificate is in force. A filed but not yet registered application is not enough, and a mark with a different spelling does not qualify — we say so before payment and propose a zone or trademark registration.

For the public third-level zones (com.ua, net.ua, org.ua, in.ua), the regional ones (kyiv.ua and others), for .com, .net and .org no mark is needed. The zones of other countries have their own rules — from open registration to a required local presence or trademark, as in .com.au — which we check before payment. We register through NIC.UA.

Registration of a .UA domain for the first year — 3,200 UAH. Renewal and hosting are paid separately.

While there is no mark yet, you can register the name in a third-level zone and move to .ua once the certificate is granted. Whether the name is free and whether the mark qualifies, we check before payment, not after.
